Position Overview:
The Color Scientist/Imaging Engineer is a technical role within the engineering team responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of Photo Research product line of precision optical instruments. As a member of the technical products team for Photo Research you will be responsible for contributing to many of the high level technical aspects associated with the design and production of a precision optical system.  You will be expected to provide guidance and be an authority on all aspects of color science principles as they relate to the instruments we produce.  JADAK has a highly collaborative work environment. In this role you will join a highly collaborative environment and be expected to contribute to solving day-to-day issues as they arise and work within a multidisciplinary team including our production team in a collaborative manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise in the following areas:
    • Optical test instrumentation design
    • Color science algorithm development
    • Sensor selection and overall optical design
    • Development and test of key performance parameters and specifications
    • Color Filter design and validation
    • Optical calibration methodologies
    • Authoring white papers related to findings or provide rationale for feasibility and proof of concepts within the line of business
  • Support Manufacturing by assisting with the following:
    • Perform root cause analysis with regard to failures
    • Design of in-line manufacturing tests to minimize instrument rework
    • Creation of test protocols for Quality Control and Calibration sequences of the instruments being produced

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or Imaging Science, Master’s degree preferred
  • Relevant work experience considered in lieu of advanced degree
  • Thorough understanding of colorimetry and color science principles including various CIE color spaces
  • Good practical working knowledge of image sensors, PMTs, photo diode arrays, and associated electronics
  • Knowledge of LEDs, OLEDs and flat panel displays
  • Experience with color filter design
  • Knowledgeable in optical instrumentation and design
  • Calibration methodologies and implementation for spectroradiometers, colorimeters, and photometers
  • Image processing and algorithm development
  • Basic electronic circuit design and troubleshooting skills
  • MatLab or similar simulation tools – C/C++
  • Detail oriented and thorough
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a cross functional team
  • Ability to apply statistical methods

Physical Requirements:                

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to use vision to read computer screen and read printed materials.
